4 Tricks for Feeling and Looking Your Best

As the world begins to open up in the wake of the pandemic, we need to make sure we are feeling up to the task. Your physical and mental health are both critical in today’s environment, especially as many of us continue to spend most of our time at home. These 4 Tricks for Feeling and Looking Your Best from Brewer Physical Therapy can help you maintain your physical and mental health.

Take the time to work out

Physical fitness is one of the most important things to focus on as you re-enter the world of social distancing and cultural experiences. Even if you’re just staying home, you still need to ensure you are taking care of your body in a way that keeps you healthy and fit. Exercise, even just for a few minutes per day, is a surefire way to boost your mood and keep you in the best shape.  If you’re ready to devote just 7 minutes per day to improving your physical health, start here!

Many find that a smartwatch is ideal for tracking progress and staying motivated. Most newer models even have safety features like fall detection in case you injure yourself while working out. If you’re interested in purchasing a smartwatch, it’s a good idea to also set yourself up with a screen protector and durable band.

Working out isn’t the only important part of looking and feeling your best. Nutrition is a huge part of our lives and making sure you get your servings of veggies is critical. Creating a healthy nutritional practice can help improve your outlook — which, in turn, improves your physical stability and makes sure your heart is healthy, as well as your waistline.

Be comfortable

Working out doesn’t mean you have to be uncomfortable. Invest in some nice exercise clothes – and try to look your best outside of the gym, as well! Maybe it’s time for a new sport coat, dress, or pair of jeans. Make sure you’re primarily focusing on comfort, since feeling comfortable and relaxed is another great and often overlooked way to feel your best – and that includes nursing moms, too!

Take the time to care for your teeth

Dental care is one of the most overlooked areas of both mental and physical health. And taking proper care of your teeth has been proven to boost several facets of your overall wellness. In fact, dental health is linked to mental health since inflammation in the gums can lead to depressive symptoms as well as dementia, and vice versa. If you have poor dental health, it’s possible your condition is related to poor mental health.

Take the time to focus inward

Your mind and body are most definitely linked. Focusing on physical health will help you maintain your mental stability and vice versa. There are several ways for you to make sure you are staying in touch with your inner self and supporting mental growth. For instance, carve out time in your day-to-day routine to sit, breathe, and meditate for a few moments. This practice can help lower your blood pressure, has a positive impact on some psychological disorders, and can reduce pain associated with physical maladies (like irritable bowel syndrome). No doubt incorporating meditation into your daily routine can help immensely with your self-image.

Physical activity is good for both the mind and the body.  If you need help getting moving, schedule an appointment today to get started!
